About Maryann

Maryann Held has had a lifelong passion for art. As a child getting wrapped up in her picture books was a daily occupation. As an adult, Maryann is recreating that same magic for children today.

Her first step in the process was to attain a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Inspired by her artistic passion and a desire to create the characters and worlds of her imaginative youth, Maryann pursued her studies focusing on children’s illustration and design.

Now an accomplished artist, she is a contributing member of the Autumn Society, a Philadelphia based artist’s group with members worldwide, and a skilled glass designer. Maryann currently resides in New York City.

About the Art

From a young age Maryann was captivated by children's stories and characters. The ability to be whisked into another world, completely engulfed in its magic and travel, hand in hand with her favorite children’s book characters was an outlet that she and countless others still hold dearly.

Now as an adult, her work embodies this imaginative impetus full of lively, expressive characters and vivid settings. Vibrant colors, emotive features and absolutely adorable characterization all tie in together making Maryann stand out among children’s illustrators giving the books and work she is involved with an extra magical touch.
